Central Jersey Model United Nations & Congress

Welcome to Central Jersey Model United Nations/Congress!

On behalf of the Highland Park Model UN/Congress Team and the Institute for Domestic and International Affairs, we cordially invite you to attend Central Jersey Model United Nations/Congress 2017, which will be held at the Highland Park High School on Saturday, May 20th, 2017.

With our third annual one-day conference, students will once again be provided with the opportunity to select from a variety of United Nations and Congress committees. Respective of their committee choice, students will either represent member states of the United Nations or statesmen and stateswomen of Congress. The diverse selection of domestic and international committees allows students to draw a dynamic comparison between issues that afflict the United States, and issues that impact the international community. Although Central Jersey Model United Nations/Congress committees are simulations, students who participate in the conference will learn about real, current, controversial problems concerning globalization that affect society today. Students who participate will also exercise their leadership and public-speaking skills, while simultaneously developing problem-solving strategies.

The theme of CJMUNC 2017 is “Adapting to Globalization in the Twenty-First Century through Collective Action.” As former UN Secretary General, Nobel Peace Prize Loriate, and Ghanaian diplomat Kofi Annan once stated, “It has been said that arguing against globalization is like arguing against the laws of gravity.” We must either come together to address the new challenges that globalization presents, or resign ourselves to resisting an unstoppable force.

As the world becomes increasingly connected and trade between nations becomes easier, globalization becomes an increasingly important concept. How will we adapt to a world where manufacturers can take their business to wherever labor is cheapest? How can we protect the environment while still fostering economic growth? How can we protect our workers from the ever-growing threat of automation? How do we protect our borders while keeping them open enough to facilitate travel?

By participating in this conference, you have the unique opportunity to make positive change for the future of our world. This conference will encourage participants to draw comparisons and contrasts between the methods by which the United Nations and United States Congress interact with globalization at both the international and domestic levels. At the end of the day, you will come away with a better understanding of globalization, and hopefully a motivation to take action after the conference.

If you have any questions regarding the conference, please feel free to contact cjmunchelp@gmail.com. We will do our best to assist or accommodate your needs in any way possible!
Thank you for your interest in CJMUNC 2017. We hope to see you there!
