The Virtual Conference

Due to the novel coronavirus outbreak, CJMUNC 2020 has decided to move online to ensure safety of all participants. This is our first time holding a virtual Model UN conference, and we hope that everyone who registered is excited to try out this new form of debate!

We will be waiving the fee of this conference, but would like to ask for an optional $1-5 donation to one of our local charities in Highland Park in order to help our community’s response to the outbreak.

The conference will take place on Saturday, May 30, and delegates will be required to dress in Western Business Attire. Every committee and topic will remain the same and will be moderated by a director and assistant director through the Zoom platform, a popular video conferencing tool. Zoom can allow for moderated discussion in large committees as well as rapid fire debate. In order for Zoom to operate to its fullest potential at the conference, we would advise having a computer with audio and video tools. For a detailed Zoom tutorial, please see here.

Links for each committee and the opening/closing ceremonies will be shared closer to the conference time, as well as specific information on how each committee will run. Delegates should prepare by writing a position speech and researching their topic (topic briefs will be posted mid-April). The conference schedule will be as follows:

  • 9:30-10: Opening Ceremony
  • 10-12:30: Committee Session 1
  • 12:30-1:30: Lunch Break
  • 1;30-4: Committee Session 2
  • 4-4:30: Closing Ceremony

We are hoping that the online conference will encourage more international participation as well as interest from engaging (and perhaps famous!) keynote speakers.
